On November 30, 2017, the FAMU Board of Trustees unanimously
selected Robinson to serve as the 12th president of the university.
During the confirmation process, the BOG cited Robinson as
an “outstanding scholar and researcher” and reviewed his contributions to the
University. His record of service to the Rattler community includes serving as
provost and vice president of Academic Affairs from 2003 to 2005; serving as
chief operating officer in 2007, as interim president from July 2012 to March
2014, and most recently serving as interim president beginning September 15,
2016.
“It is an honor and a privilege to lead this great institution,” said Robinson, while sharing his vision and priorities with the BOG. “My commitment as the 12th president is to work wholeheartedly to make FAMU an institution that is an even stronger ‘First Choice’ for students, a priority destination for agencies that invest in research, a model of meaningful engagement, and a favored institution committed to transparency and accountability. ”
Robinson outlined the following areas of focus as president
of FAMU:
· Increasing student success, graduation rates, and
improving licensure pass rates
· Enhancing the student experience
· Increasing our recruitment efforts of transfer students
· Enhancing and improving our housing facilities
· Increasing accountability
· Stabilizing the University
· Increasing financial support
· Improving the efficiency and effectiveness of our services
(with a focus on customer service)
· Increasing research funding
In Board of Trustees Chair Kelvin Lawson’s statement to the
BOG requesting Robinson’s confirmation, he stated: “Dr. Robinson has
consistently demonstrated his commitment to serve this University and its
constituents. His outstanding scholarship, academic career, research
accomplishments and public service in the state and national arena are
distinguished.”
