FAMU (1-2) scored the game’s first run in the second on a
RBI double by Jamari Ridley for a 1-0
lead. In the top of the third, FAMU scored five runs for a 6-0 lead, keyed by
an RBI double from Mackenize Woodard; an RBI single from Tyra Bowers and a
two-run double from Edrienne Williams.
After Georgia Tech scored three runs in the bottom of the
third, FAMU plated single runs in the fourth and fifth innings for an 8-3 lead.
Senior pitcher Veronica Burse (1-1) got the victory in the
circle for FAMU, scattering eight hits and allowing two earned runs in six and
two-thirds innings, with three strikeouts.
Leading the 15-hit parade for FAMU was Woodard, who went
three-for-three with an RBI, followed by Bowers, who went three-for-four with a
run driven in. Toni Anderson had two hits, as did Jamesia Stoudemire, who also
scored two runs, while adding two stolen bases. Edrienne Williams, Yurie
Hampton and Jamari Ridley each also had one hit, with Ridley adding and RBI.
