The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) announced FAMU student Belynda Wesley among its recipients of the 2018 NABJ Les Payne Reporting Trip to China Scholarship.

The trip honors Les Payne, NABJ founder and fourth president, for his revolutionary work to encourage foreign reporting experiences. NABJ received a strong pool of candidates, but only selected five top students from across the country.

Wesley is a senior at Florida A&M University studying broadcast journalism. After transferring to FAMU, she became involved in student media with FAMU TV20 and publishing articles in the school newspaper, The FAMUan. These media outlets have given her the skills to be a successful intern at WSVN Channel 7 News and WCTV Eyewitness News, to name a few.

Wesley will receive an all-expense paid trip and join the NABJ delegation to China from Nov. 24 – Dec. 2 to expand NABJ’s work abroad, encourage and fuel foreign reporting, heighten NABJ’s visibility as a major media player, and exchange ideas, best practices and journalistic trends.
