Isaiah Martin led all scorers with 21 points on 9-of-10 shooting. Martin also collected six blocked shots and nine rebounds. Playing in his last game as a Rattlers, Martin left his mark as a force in the middle, which affected the outcome of the game.
Kamron Reaves went 8-of-12 from the field, en route to pouring in 19 points, which was the second highest scoring of the game. MJ Randolph contributed eight rebounds for the Rattlers.
FAMU Head Coach Robert McCullum was elated with his team’s effort.
“Now it’s a rivalry. I’ve been waiting to say that! We’ve been going back and forth, but until we beat them, it’s not a rivalry. They’ve been beating us. Now, it’s a rivalry,” McCullum said.
“We got off to a great start. We weathered the storm, fought back, we never relinquished the lead. It was just a team victory. Defensively, which has been our stronghold all year, to hold them under 60 points as athletic and deep as they are, it just speaks volumes to how well we played defensively and trusted each other. It’s a win that I know our team is proud of and we hope our administration, fans and alums are proud and it gives us a lot to build on going into the offseason in preparation for next year,” said McCullum.
The Wildcats were led by Cletrell Pope, who scored 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Malik Maitland rounded out the scorers in double figures with 13 points on 5-of-16 shooting. Pope pulled down 13 rebounds for the only double-double of the game, setting the MEAC record for setting Maitland added five steals and five assists for the maroon and gold.
The Rattlers had consistent scoring in the game, carding 33 in the first half and 31 in the second. B-CU scored 25 in the first half and equaled the Rattlers with 31 in the second half.
FAMU shot 46.4 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the free throw line. The Rattlers dominated the paint, scoring 34 points, while B-CU scored just 20. FAMU also got 10 points from the bench.
B-CU shot 35.6 percent from the field and 53.3 percent from the field.
This game concludes the season for the Rattlers as they are ineligible for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference playoffs.
