Joe Maleszewski, the man at the center of the university's latest financial crisis joined the FAMU staff on March 29, 2019 as Vice President of Audit.  While Maleszewski may be new to FAMU, the internal issues surrounding the university's financing of athletics are not new to him.
Maleszewski discussed the improper transfer of funds from auxiliary accounts to athletics while conducting a "routine" review to determine the status of university's corrective action (athletic deficit repayment plan) FAMU agreed to with the Board of Governors in 2016.
From September 2013-June 2018 he served as inspector general and director of compliance for the State University System of Florida Board of Governors. Prior to coming to FAMU, Maleszewski was chief auditor for the City of Tallahassee for nearly ten months.
He is a Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Information Systems Auditor, Certified Inspector General, Certified Inspector General Investigator, Certified Inspector General Auditor, Certified Government Auditing Professional and Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional.
Maleszewski holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Marketing and a Master in Business Administration from Florida State University.  He replaces former VP for Audit Rick Givens who retired in January.
