FAMU will eliminate its men’s tennis and men’s cross country programs in June 2020 as part of a plan to balance a projected $2.4 million athletic deficit. Each team has six student-athletes who will maintain scholarships if they continue to meet academic standards.
The men’s track coach will continue coaching other teams, including track and field sports.
The men’s tennis coach has been working as a volunteer, and the position will not be filled when the program is cut.
Eliminating both programs will result in undisclosed cost savings, according to a release from the FAMU Sport Information Office yesterday.
