The FAMU Women’s Volleyball Team went toe-to-toe with host North Carolina Central Friday evening, outlasting the Eagles in a five-set contest, 3-2 (25-16, 23-25, 25-20, 20-25, 16-14) at the McDougald-McLendon Center.
FAMU (10-19, 7-6 MEAC) won the opening set, 25-16, before the Eagles (7-23, 6-7 MEAC) rallied to take the second, 25-23.
The next two sets were decided by indentical 25-20 scores, with FAMU winning the third, and NCCU taking the fourth to force a decisive fifth set.
In that fifth set, Alexis Gosha and Alexys Mann each had two kills, with Gosha’s second kill, putting FAMU ahead, 14-13.
After NCCU tied the score 14-14, on a kill by Estafinia Louis, FAMU came away with the win thanks to back-to-back attack errors by the Eagles.
Gosha finished with a season-high 19 kills and 22 digs, followed by Maria Yvett Garcia with 16 kills, with Alexys Mann and Alyssa Brown each finished with nine kills.
Ilayda Nurkan (28) and Elena Dimitrova (23) were the leaders in assists for FAMU, while freshman Nahla Muhammad led with 28 digs.
