The full FAMU Board of Trustees, tomorrow, will consider approving a proposal to allow the Department of Computer and Information Sciences to begin offering both the Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Cybersecurity (CyS) beginning this Fall of 2020.
The new degrees are being designed to satisfy ABET accreditation criteria for Cybersecurity. There is a global workforce shortage of nearly 3 million cybersecurity professionals. The industry has an average medium salary of $95,500 per year, with an annual 28% growth rate, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The new degree offerings will address a state and national workforce need. It's projected that there will be a 32% increase in demand for information security analysts over the next eight years.
The proposal is on the Trustees' consent calendar.
