FAMU yesterday announced that nine student athletes have tested positive for the coronavirus.  The athletes who began to return to campus on Sunday were tested over a three-week period with most of the test conducted on Monday at Bragg Stadium. In all, a total of 65 athletes were tested.

Athletic Director Kortne Gosha would not go into detail which sports the athletes were involved in.

Currently, there are athletes from three sports on campus: football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball.  FAMU officials said there were no on campus transmission.
Gosha also says the beginning of team practices, which are scheduled to begin July 20, remains unchanged despite the “small percent” of positives. However, players did engage in small workouts which did not exceed 10 participants.

The athletes who tested positive have been notified and have been asked to quarantine.

There have been more than reported  301,629 cases in Florida since the start of the pandemic, with more than 77,000 cases reported in the past seven days.
