Rattlers who have been following the drama on the hit TV show Power on STARZ for the past six seasons, got a real treat when they tuned into the premier of the spinoff series Power Book II: Ghost Sunday night.
FAMU alum Woody McClain, a former member of the Marching 100 and Strikers dance troupe, joined the cast as Cane, the son of Mary J. Blige who plays drug “queenpin” Monet Tejada on the show. Cane isn't just any son, his role is described as a loyal son and “right-hand-man” to Tejada (played by Blige).
Power Book II: Ghost is the first of many spinoffs following the original series created by Courtney Kemp and executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. The beloved crime drama ended its run feeling more like a murder mystery, with each member of its supporting cast suspected of killing Ghost, the show’s main character.
McClain, who was born in Charleston, SC, and raised in Jacksonville, FL, enrolled at FAMU in 2008 attended until 2012 when he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in dancing. He landed a job as a backup dancer for Chris Brown. He is one of the few comedians to make it off Vine before the advent of TikTok, McClain first tasted fame by way of virality, as he acted out Kevin Hart stand-up bits under the nickname WoodyTheGreat.
Soon after, he signed on to Kevin Hart’s production company, Hartbeat Digital, and landed the role as Bobby Brown in BET’s The New Edition Story and made a guest appearance on CBS’ Training Day.
