FAMU men’s basketball (4-8, 3-2 MEAC) used a big second half to Tuesday night to defeat defending MEAC champs North Carolina Central Eagles (4-5, 2-2 MEAC) 60-47 in the Al Lawson Center on campus.
The victory was FAMU's second consecutive win over the Eagles notching a 59-50 win in the opening game of the two game series.
Preseason All-MEAC selection, MJ Randolph, led the Rattlers effort scoring 14 points while snagging six rebounds and dishing out three assists.
The Eagles led at halftime despite shooting only 28.6 percent from the floor. In the second half, the Rattlers cranked up the pressure
Up 46-42 with 7:38 left to play, FAMU seized total control of the game with a 10-0 run highlighted by a pair of three-pointers from Johnny Brown to put the Rattlers up 56-42 with 4:33 left.
The Rattlers kept their foot on the gas to for the remainder of the night to claim a 13-point victory over the Eagles.
FAMU hit 48.9 percent of its shots (23-of-47), including 4-of-17 from long distance. The Rattlers connected on 71.4 percent of its free throw attempts (10-of-14), FAMU's highest conversion percentage since Dec. 9 against Oregon.
The 47 points that Florida A&M surrendered against NCCU was the least amount of points the Rattlers have given up since defeating Delaware State 60-47 on Jan. 21, 2019.
FAMU will host its final home series against North Carolina A&T on Feb. 20 and 21.
Tuesday night, the Rattlers held NCCU's high scoring offense to just 47 points on 54 shots. The Eagles shot 33.3 percent from the field. The Rattlers scored 16 points off turnovers, compared to nine for Central.
