After having to cancel or postpone their first 11 games of the season, the Lady Rattlers softball team took to diamond and dropped both games of a doubleheader to Southeastern Louisiana, 11-1 and 12-3, in the Unconquered Invitational at Florida State on Friday.
FAMU struggled to get much offense going their first game which lasted only five innings. The Rattlers were held hitless through 16 at-bats, scoring its lone run on a Lion error.
Gabriella Williams got the start for the FAMU, working 0.1 innings, allowing eight runs on five hits. Nadia Zenteno tossed 4.2 innings in relief, striking out two batters while giving up three runs on two hits.
SLU (6-5) tallied 11 hits. The Lions' Lindsey Rizzo went 4-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Heather Zumo (4-1) got the win for SLU after throwing 3.0 innings, giving up one run while striking out four.
Game 2 started out on a promising note for the Rattlers with Kenyaamari Jones and Melkayla Irvis opening the game with back-to-back hits.
Jones scored when Seriah Brokenborough drilled a liner at shortstop that couldn't be corralled, giving the Rattlers an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
With SLU up 5-1 in the third inning, Brokenbourough got her first RBI of the year, hitting a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Irvis from third base and cut the Lion lead to three.
However, SLU had a seven-run bottom half of the third punctuated by a two-run homer by Cameron Goodman.
The Lady Rattlers will face Florida Gulf Coast today at 10 a.m. at FSU.
