The FAMU Rattler Men’s Basketball team took a three-game series from conference foe South Carolina State winning the weekend series two games to one. In the series finale, yesterday, senior guard MJ Randolph scored a game-high 20 points as FAMU cruised to a 63-58 victory in Orangeburg, SC.
Randolph bounced back from a four-point, 1-for-10 shooting performance in Saturday's contest, with a 20-point, 7-of-12 effort in Sunday's victory. The Pensacola, Fla. native added six rebounds, two assists and two steals to his tally
DJ Jones notched his third consecutive double-figure scoring game, contributing 11 points with eight rebounds, three assists and one block.
FAMU battled back from a four-point halftime deficit, opening the second period on a 17-6 run to build a 45-38 lead with 9:38 left to play.
SCSU responded with a run of their own, tying the game at 47 on a Tariq Simmons three-pointer.
With the score tied at 49, MJ Randolph drained a three-pointer that put the Rattlers up for good. FAMU built an eight-point lead with 26 seconds left (62-54) salting the game away with free throws.
FAMU shot 53.3 percent from the field (24-of-45), while SCSU hit on 40.8 percent of its shots (20-of-49).
The Rattlers gear up for a pivotal two-game regular season finale series with MEAC Southern Division foe, North Carolina Central in Durham, N.C. on March 3 and 4.
