Darrin Eakins, a 2011 FAMU graduate with a degree in Construction Engineering Technology, has launched a new small batch whiskey that went on sale on May 27, 2021. DuBlase Whiskey, as it is called, retails for $29.99.
Eakins, who is based in Jacksonville, FL, describes himself as a serial entrepreneur, has worked for the past two years with a distiller to develop his proprietary whiskey formula that includes natural Florida spices with a hint of vanilla.
“I’m beyond excited to introduce DuBlase to the U.S. whiskey market. When people think of American Whiskey, they generally think of Kentucky & Tennessee, but I’m proud to say DuBlase was formulated and grown in my home state of Florida. It’s a hand crafted small batch whiskey offering a robust and smooth taste,” said Eakins.
“DuBlase is a true small batch, bringing together complex notes, offering a balanced and flavorful pour. “Matured and blended under the guidance of our master distiller in Florida. We distill every batch six times with precision, which allows us to create an authentic, crisp flavor profile,” Eakins added.
DuBlase is the second small batch whiskey, that we know of, launched by an HBCU grad. In 2018 Jason Ridgel, a graduate of Tennessee State U., launched Guidance Whiskey a premium craft small-batch which is available in stores in Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida, Georgia, California and in 43 states via online.
