When FAMU begins construction on the second phase of Bragg Stadium’s major health and safety improvements (renovations), it will move forward with a new construction contractor and designer.
Allstate Construction, of Tallahassee, will serve as the contractor on Phase 2, while Clemons Rutherford & Associates will serve as the projects’ designer, according to FAMU Board or Trustee documents from September 30, 2021.
Ram Construction and Development, who served as contractor for Phase 1 is out. Their work, along with Barkley Engineering (designer for Phase 1) is completed.
What’s in store for Phase 2?
Much like Phase 1, the bulk work on Phase 2 will be used to replace the stadium’s steel pan with aluminum pans, install new seating on the west side, water blast, repair and reinforce support beams under the stadium allowing them to withstand more force and increase the lifespan of the stadium, and renovate or replace the existing press box. The total project budget for Phase 2 is $6 million.
FAMU budgeted $4 million for Phase 1 construction, and spent $3.954 million.
What’s not included in Phase 2?
Renovation and repair Braggs stadium’s restrooms, concession stands, and addressing some of the America Disabilities Act requirements were dropped from the original scope of work, because of budget shortfalls with the project.
