Rattlers rout Grambling 26-3 in homecoming victory

The FAMU Rattlers defeated Grambling State 26-3 Saturday in front of a sellout homecoming crowd of 31,887.  The Rattlers improved to 6-2 and 4-1 in the SWAC. 

The Rattlers jumped on Grambling early, marching 82 yards in 10 plays on their opening drive with QB Rasean McKayconnecting with Jah'Marae Sheread on a 15 yards pass in the end zone to go up 7-0 with 10:27 remaining in the first quarter.
 
After shutting down the Grambling offense, the marched 90 yards in 16 plays in the second quarter to score again on a  6-yard touchdown pass from McKay to Jermaine Hawkins in the corner of the endzone to extend the lead to 14-0 with 14:55 left in the second quarter.
 
FAMU continued to put pressure on the GSU defense as the Rattlers capitalized on an unsportsmanlike penalty. FAMU went 61 yards in 12 plays as Jaylen McCloud scored on a 1-yard touchdown run to push the margin to 21-0 with 4:55 remaining in the first half.
 
The win helped head coach Willie Simmons remain undefeated on homecoming during his three seasons as the head Rattler. The victory also helped FAMU go undefeated at home for the second season in a row.  FAMU has a 10-game home winning streak. 
 
The Rattler defense held the Tigers to 187 yards total offense and just three points on the afternoon.  The Rattler offense, on the other hand, racked up 356 total yards, 210 of them by air –passing—and 146 yards rushing.
