The FAMU Rattler football team got its first road win of the season with a 35-31 victory over Alabama A&M, Saturday, in Normal, AL.
Tailing by a score of 28-10 with 8:21 remaining in the third quarter, the Rattlers used a big fourth quarter effort outscoring AMMU 19-3 in the final minutes to put the game away.
Running back Bishop Bonnett sealed the victory for the Rattlers with 2:15 remaining in the game when he broke free with an 80-yard touchdown. Alabama A&M was unable to respond, dropping its third-straight game.
Quarterback Rasean McKay threw three touchdown passes in the game and connected on 21 of 34 passes for 251 yards. Bonnett rushed for 187 yards on 17 carries, while Terrell Jennings amassed 82 rushing yards on 19 carries.
The Rattlers compiled 524 yards of total offense, there most this season, to AAMU’s 296. FAMU had 25 first downs to AAMU’s 13.
National flag day
Both teams kept the referees busy with a total of 22 penalties. Both teams were penalized 11 times with the Rattlers being flagged for 183 yards to the Bulldogs 104 yards.
With the win, FAMU improved to 4-2 on the season and 2-1 in the SWAC.
