Rasean McKay connected on 12 of 24 passes for 149 yards and one touchdown as the Rattler offense used a big first half to score 21 points to coast to a 28-0 victory over the Alabama State Hornets on Saturday, before 21,097 fans in Bragg Stadium. It was Rattlers first SWAC victory and first shut out since October 6, 2018, when the Rattlers defeated Norfolk State 17-0.
The Rattlers used a balanced attack to compile 293 yards total offense, rushing for 144 yards.
"We came fresh out the gate with a lot of energy and enthusiasm.," said head coach Willie Simmons. Defensively, we played lights out, and offensively we did what we needed to."
FAMU jumped on the Hornets early marching down the field 77-yards, in 6 plays, on its opening drive to score on a Rasean McKay to Kamari Young touchdown pass.
The Rattlers came out in the second half picking up where they left off forcing a turnover on downs after Derrick Mayweather sacked Ryan Nettles on 4th and 4.
The defense held the Hornets to just 197 total yards while recording four sacks and one interception.
On the downside, the Rattlers were penalized 13 times for 133 yards.
FAMU improved to 2-2 on the season, 1-1 in the SWAC.
