Hiram Powell, Bethune-Cookman University's interim president abruptly retired, the university announced late Wednesday. Powell had worked at B-CU in various capacities for more than 42- years.
No replacement was immediately announced.
The school's board of trustees recently began the for a search for a permanent president following the sudden resignation of E. LaBrent Chrite in 2021, who left the school to become president of Bentley University.
An interim president will be named "in the coming weeks," according to the B-CU statement.That person will become the fifth person to hold the job of president or interim president since Edison Jackson resigned in 2017 amid a string of financial, legal and academic problems.
