FAMU’s 4-year graduation rate for first time in college, full-time students, entering in 2017-21 was 27%, a 7.6 % decline from the 34.6% for the 2016-20 cohort. The 27% rate was also 11 points short of the 38% grad rate the university had hope to achieve.
The University reported the numbers to the Florida Board of Governors for consideration for a slice of more than half a billion dollars in state performance based funding dollars.
FAMU has set a goal of achieving a 40% 4-year graduation rate for its FTIC 2018-22 cohort, if achieved, it would likely place the university among the top five HBCUs. In May, the university received a $1.2 million gift from Frank and Laura Baker to help students graduate in four years.
