Rachel Smith, a second year law student at the FAMU College of Law has been awarded the Joel Stern Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Pipeline Scholarship.
“It has been a challenging year for me,” said Smith. “This scholarship will allow me to focus on my education, and will grant me the opportunity to continue to be a part of a plan to foster diversity in the legal field. I am beyond grateful.”
The Plant City, FL native, decided to pursue a legal career, focusing on inequities in social justice and health care after her family members experienced major health challenges.
Marie Maurice, chair of the FAMU Law scholarship committee, said that Smith is a true advocate for the community through the work she’s completed.
The $10,000 award provides financial support to students who contribute to the diversity of their law school student body as they pursue their legal careers.
