The FAMU Board of Trustees (BOT) voted Thursday, December 8, to give President Larry Robinson, a 3.5 percent raise, a 17.5 percent bonus and to extend his contract for another year.
The 3.5 percent raise is retroactive back to July 1, and equates to a $15,275.26 increase for the 2022-23 school year. Robinson's base salary for the 2022-23 school year is $451,711.26. According to the Chronicle of Higher Education, the median base-salary for a President of a public doctoral university in 2020-21 (the most recent year for which data is available) was $495,000.
Robinson’s 17.5 percent bonus for the 2021-22 school year works out to be $76,376.30. With the bonus, Robinson will have earned a total salary of $512,812 in FY 2021-22 (base salary $436,436 + $76,376 bonus), not including his housing allowance and car benefit.
Under the Board of Governors regulations, Boards of Trustees can only extend sitting university president’s contract for one-year.
“I am honored and humbled to serve as the 12th President of FAMU and truly pleased that the Board of Trustees has allowed me to continue in this role. I look forward to working on our ascension to becoming one of the Top 100 universities in the nation with student success leading the way,” Robinson said.
The BOT voted for the raise, bonus, and contract extension on the strength of Robinson’s performance evaluation for the 2021-2022 academic year. In August, Trustees gave Robinson a 4.48 out of 5.0, or an above-average rating on his annual evaluation.
