The FAMU College of Food and Agriculture Science’s Cooperative Extension program has opened a teaching community garden in West Palm Beach, FL.  The garden located at Coleman Park garden is the first of three planned for the area and aims to provide essential programs, and fresh produce in an area considered a "food desert."

"It's an opportunity to bring back those food resource management that a lot of times this new generation has lost," said Vonda Richardson, director of the FAMU Cooperative Extension. “We will help to teach young people that food doesn’t grow in the grocery store, but it grows in places  just like this.

FAMU plans to open two more community gardens in the area in the coming months.
