FAMU completed the purchase of the Citivue at Railroad Square Apartments (google rating 3.5 stars), a 116-bed housing complex, at 600 E. Eugenia Street in Tallahassee yesterday.  The university paid $12.7 million for the property.

The new property acquisition will immediately make available 57 of the 116 apartment units  at Citivue available to FAMU students this fall, university officials said.

FAMU used a portion of the $195 million in pandemic relief (Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds (HEERF)funds it received from Congress to purchase the property.  FAMU received another $116 million in loan forgiveness from Congress for the money it borrowed to construct the new 700-bed FAMU Towers Complex and refinance Polkinghorne Village.

In October, FAMU used $12.6 million in HEERF funds to purchase the Light House at Brooklyn Yards apartment complex off Eugenia Street.

FAMU plans to construct 1,000 beds of new on campus housing by 2024 to address its need for additional student housing.  FAMU has a goal of increasing its ownership of student housing to  4,500 beds, currently the university owns roughly 2,700 beds of student housing.
