FAMU baseball and softball teams pick up good wins at home on Friday

The FAMU baseball team defeated the No. 24 ranked FGCU Eagles 6-4 at Moore-Kittles Field yesterday in Tallahassee.  The victory improved the Rattlers to 6-9 on the season, and dropped the Eagles to 12-3.

The Rattlers got the scoring started early, putting three runs on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. FAMU scored three times, all of them coming across on a three-run homer off the bat of Bastardo.

The Eagles then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 3-1 until the Rattlers expanded their advantage in the third. FAMU scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Janmikell Bastardo, which brought the score to 4-1 in favor of the Rattlers.

FGCU fired back to even the ballgame at four before FAMU reclaimed a 5-4 advantage in the seventh inning. The Rattlers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of sophomore Will Brown.

FAMU held the Eagles scoreless before their offense got things moving the next inning. Sophomore Jalen Niles crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Rattlers, bringing the FAMU advantage to 6-4. The score remained 6-4 for the rest of the game, as the Rattlers held on for the win.

Softball teams wins
The FAMU softball teams defeated Jackson State 5-3 Friday afternoon to open up their conference schedule in Tallahassee. The victory helped the Rattlers improve to 7-10 (1-0 SWAC) on the season, and dropped the Tigers to 10-12 (0-1 SWAC).

The Rattlers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Florida A&M put up two runs in the frame, highlighted by an RBI triple off the bat of 
Senior Nyah Morgan.

After the Lady Tigers rallied to tie the ballgame at two, the Rattlers came back to retake the lead in the fifth inning. FAMU’s offense had a good inning, putting three runs on the scoreboard, which brought the score to 5-2 in favor of the Rattlers. Jackson State put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but FAMU still held on for the 5-3 win.
