Dr. Carl Goodman, a FAMU grad and former Pharmacy professor, has been named provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Texas Southern University, the school announced on yesterday.

He will join TSU from Bowie State University (BSU), where, for the past three years, he served as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs.  He will start on July 1, 2023.

At Bowie, Goodman was responsible for leading academic growth and research innovation.

“At Texas Southern University, we value knowledge and experience and Carl Goodman embodies both” said President Dr. Lesia L. Crumpton-Young. “He has demonstrated a commitment to teaching, research and innovation as well as student success throughout his career. We look forward to him contributing to our mission of transforming lives and providing exceptional leadership at our esteemed university.”

Prior to joining BSU, Goodman served as associate provost for academic affairs and student services at FAMU, while holding down duties as a faculty member in the College of Pharmacy.

“I am truly delighted to become a part of Texas Southern University with its outstanding faculty, innovative research initiatives, and exceptional students,” said Goodman. “My vision is to create a learning-centered environment where students are receiving exceptional educational experiences from extraordinary faculty.”

Goodman holds a doctoral degree in pharmacology/toxicology from FAMU and a bachelor’s degree in biology and psychology from Jacksonville University. He was a postdoctoral NIH fellow at the National Institute of Drug Abuse.
