Jonathan David, a senior in the FAMU School of Journalism Media & Graphic Communications, who also works a videographer in the FAMU Athletics Department, on Monday, won the 2023 Coca-Cola HBCU Sports Production Grant at the 44th Annual Sports Emmy Awards in New York, NY.

Earlier this month, David, and his team consisting of fellow students Tristian Hutton, Breche' Devalt, and Aliya Everett, were notified that their documentary “Defy the Odds” was one of six finalist for the award.  They beat out teams from Morgan State, Delaware State (last year's winner), Alabama State, and Stillman College to win the $40,000 grant and a coveted Sports Emmy award.

Just this year, David was selected as one of 18 students for the inaugural FAMU-Disney Storytellers Scholars fellows program and received a $10,000 scholarship.
