The number of Hispanic students attending FAMU has more than doubled in the past 10 years increasing from 228 in Fall 2012 to 513 in Fall 2023, despite the university’s decline in enrollment over the same period.  In 2012 FAMU’s enrollment was 12, 051, compared to 9,228 students in 2023.

Over the same period, the number white students attending FAMU dropped slightly from 603 in 2012 to 543 in 2023, according to FAMU’s Fact Book.

The sharp rise in the number of Hispanic students follows a national trend. Nearly one in five college students ages 18-24 identifies as being of Hispanic or Latino origin, according to a new analysis by the U.S. Census Bureau — up from one in 10 students in 2005.

Between 2012 and 2023, the number of Hispanic people in the U.S. grew by 10 million people, from 52.6 million to 62.1 million.
