This Saturday, prior to the season-opener football game against the University of West Florida, FAMU will officially dedicate, and rename, the football field at Bragg Memorial Stadium in honor of NFL and FAMU Hall of Famer Ken Riley.

Riley who died from a heart attack at the age of 72 in 2020 is the only person to play football, serve as head football coach, and athletics director in FAMU history. He was posthumously inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year.

"Ken showed tremendous leadership as a student and a quarterback,” said former FAMU Sports Information Director Alvin Hollins. “The only regret is that he didn't get in the Pro Football Hall of Fame before he passed. Several of the players he coached made it to the NFL. We had great success with him as a coach and athletics director."

"What Ken Riley has meant to Florida A&M is immeasurable," President Larry Robinson said in a statement. "He was always one of our university's greatest ambassadors, and we are excited to be able to honor him with the naming of Ken Riley Field at Bragg Memorial Stadium.
We are also honored that his wife Barbara and members of the Riley family can be here for this special occasion. Their presence will make this day mean even more to our entire university.

The field dedication ceremony will take place at 5:45 pm on Saturday and during halftime, Tallahassee Mayor John Dailey will present a proclamation naming September 16, 2023 as Ken Riley Day in Tallahassee.
