The Florida Board of Bar Examiners said last week that nearly 72% of July’s first-time test takers passed its attorney licensing exam, up from 64% in July 2022.  The results were an 8 percentage points increase this year over last year.

However, graduates of the FAMU College of Law first-time passage rate dropped 10.9 percent year-over-year from 52.6 percent in 2022 to 41.7 percent in 2023.

In July 2022, FAMU Law had  95 grads taking the exam for the first time with 50 passing. In July 2023, 60 FAMU Law grads took the exam with 25 passing it.

FAMU Law’s passage rate was worst in the state for the July 2023 exam.

FAMU Law’s July score was slightly better than its February score of 40 percent, when only 8 of 20 test takers passed the bar exam on the first try.  February’s scores were a 16 percent year-over-year drop.

FAMU Law’s bar passage rate, along with the success of graduates on other professional licensure exams has long been a concern of the FAMU Board of Trustees.
