LB Allen Smith celebrates after recovering a fumble in the end zone. |
The FAMU Rattlers went 4 plays and 10 yards in its opening drive against Mississippi Valley State, after QB Jeremy Moussa completed a 10 yard pass to JahMarae Sheread and then threw three incomplete passes.
FAMU’s second drive was much of the same as Moussa completed a 12 yard pass to Sheread followed up by a couple of incomplete passes.
The early offensive struggles were an omen for how the rest of the first half would play out for the Rattlers before coming alive in the second half to thump the Delta Devils 31-7.
The Rattlers scored first four minutes into first quarter as linebacker Allen Smith recovered a botched MVSU snap in the end zone to put the Rattlers up 7-0. FAMU scored again on a field goal late in the first quarter to go up 10-0.
MVSU scored late in the second to narrow the Rattlers’ lead to 10-7.
Defense has been keeping us in the game
The Rattlers have become accustom to cleaning up their own messes, though. When the offense stutters, the defense has been prepared to step up and keep the game close. When the offense does finally step up, as it did with a 21 point second half against MVSU, FAMU has been able to bury opponents.
The defense has done more for the offense than just help out with keeping numbers low on the scoreboard. The unit has also been able to keep the offense motivated and focused during the slow starts.
The Rattlers will have little time to fix its offensive woes as it travels to Southern this Saturday to face the number one defense in the SWAC .
FAMU needs a mobile QB. Moussa ain’t it. Our running game is the worst in all of college football. So, is our problem the head coach or the offensive coordinator or both? This team ain’t worth paying $50.00 to see.
