It has been a little over three months since FAMU announced its three finalists for the next vice president for University Advancement (VPUA) and executive director of the FAMU Foundation position. Since that time nothing has happened.
A national search was launched in April and the university invited three candidates to campus in July. The campus visits allowed the university and the candidates time to engage and explore the opportunity with President Robinson expected to name the next VPUA by the end of July.
The new VP was expected to replace Shawnta Friday-Stroud who has served in the role for the past five years while also serving as dean of the FAMU School of Business and Industry (SBI). FAMU claims Friday-Stroud had expressed a desire to return to being dean full-time once a successor was named and began work. However, the decision to divide the two roles came after Trustees strongly suggested the split. It was their collective opinion that one person cannot adequately serve in two full-time jobs.
By all accounts, Friday-Stroud has done a pretty good job of raising funds for FAMU, albeit she has been aided by strong national philanthropic trends that has seen an uptick in corporate America and private giving to HBCUs following the police murder of George Floyd in 2020.

And SBI has lost ground as a result.
