The FAMU football team will face off against in-state rival Bethune-Cookman today in the 45th edition of the Florida Classic. The Rattlers (9-1 overall, 7-0 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference) and Wildcats (3-7, 2-5) enter the weekend on different trajectories this season.
The Rattlers enter the game with the nation's second-longest winning streak at eight games and the Wildcats are coming in on a two-game winning streak.
FAMU holds the all-time advantage against BCU winning 43 of the matchups against 24 losses.
A FAMU win Saturday would give the Rattlers their first 10-win season since 1999. It’s possible that the team could finish with a 12-win season.
To win, FAMU will have to be focused and pay attention to detail, FAMU Coach Willie Simmons said, adding that the past four winners have taken care of the football and not done anything to beat themselves.
