Spring 2024 brings a wave of fresh talent to FAMU’s athletic department as it welcomes 65 new interns from all corners of the campus. These interns help to contribute to the overall success of FAMU athletics, while allowing them to gain invaluable work experience.

Internships help students to network with great people and sharpen their skills before entering the workforce. They also help students tremendously with figuring out their true passion.

Myron Dobson, a first-year business administration student from Columbia, South Carolina, is just one of the new interns this semester.  Dobson joined the Game Day Operations Department, and works under the supervision of Darius Dixon, Assistant Game Day Operations & Facilities Coordinator.  Dobson said he is pleased with the internship and the communication and camaraderie within the intern team.

Part of Dobson's duties is ensuring that coaches' needs are met before games, systems are functioning properly, and game floors are swept for player safety during matches.

"The experience I have on campus, I believe, is comparable to what I would receive off-campus. This comes in the form of long-term connections with my supervisors and other interns," Dobson explained when asked about the potential of an off-campus internship.

Conversely, there are nearly 20 +/- FAMU students interning in the Athletics Communications and Digital Strategies department, taking charge of the department's Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) accounts. These ambitious interns are not just spectators; they are the driving force behind the captivating stories, stunning visuals, and engaging content that bring the university's sports events to life.

In short, these students gain an opportunity to build their portfolios by flexing their creative muscles by producing eye-catching graphics and engaging video content. They are not just interns; they are the storytellers, the visual architects, and the digital strategists helping to shape the FAMU Athletics narrative.

Fayth Kemp, FAMU athletics' Internship Coordinator and Assistant Marketing Coordinator, said we offer students an opportunity to hone their skills, serve their school, and gain valuable experience t
hat can further their careers and passionsThis internship not only provides them with valuable skills and experiences but also sets them on a trajectory for success in the competitive world of sports media.

"The students I work with are intelligent, hardworking, and diligent," Kemp stated.

The department is proud to have these talented students on board, their contributions are undoubtedly leaving a lasting impact on the university's sports ports program. The future looks bright for these students, where the choose to become sports professionals or other careers. FAMU Athletics is thrilled to be part of their journey, Kemp added.
