The FAMU football program has announced a significant addition to its coaching staff with the appointment of Henry Burris as the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. This marks the first outside hire under Coach James Colzie's tenure, signaling a strategic move to bolster the team's coaching roster.

"Having to try and fill the huge void that was left by former (FAMU Head Coach) Willie Simmons’ departure, I felt it was important to get someone who could step in right away and gel with our offensive staff," said Colzie.

Burris, a renowned figure in Canadian football, brings with him a wealth of experience and accolades. With an illustrious 18-season career in the Canadian Football League (CFL), including stints in the NFL, Burris boasts an impressive track record. He has secured three Grey Cup championships and ranks third in all-time CFL regular season passing yardage, touchdown passes, and completions.

"Joining the FAMU football staff isn't just about football; it's about FAMUly," said Burris. "My wife, Nicole, and our boys, Armand, and Barron are thrilled to embark on this journey together."

Burris's transition from player to coach has been seamless, with notable stints in the NFL and CFL. His tenure as an offensive quality control coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars, LA Rams, and Chicago Bears underscored his commitment to mentorship and leadership development. Burris's ability to groom quarterbacks, including notable names like Trevor Lawrence, further solidifies his reputation as a top-tier coach.

The appointment of Henry Burris represents a significant milestone for FAMU football, signaling a commitment to excellence and a strategic move to elevate the team's performance on and off the field.
