In a move aimed at fostering diversity and equity in higher education, The Sallie Mae Fund has announced an expansion of its partnership with the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund (TMSF). The collaboration seeks to empower students from under-resourced and underrepresented communities in accessing and completing their post-secondary education.
Under the newly launched initiative, named the Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program, The Sallie Mae Fund will award 10 scholarships worth $10,000 each to high school graduates intending to enroll in public Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Additionally, another 10 scholarships of the same amount will be granted to graduate students attending TMSF Member schools.
This latest effort builds upon the momentum generated by the ongoing partnership between The Sallie Mae Fund and the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund. Since 2021, the collaboration has made significant strides in supporting deserving students, having awarded scholarships to nearly 900 individuals. The total amount dispersed through these scholarships has amounted to an impressive $3 million.
The Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program represents a tangible step towards addressing the barriers that often hinder students from marginalized backgrounds from accessing higher education opportunities. By providing financial assistance, the initiative aims to alleviate the burden of educational expenses, allowing recipients to focus on their academic pursuits and career aspirations. The application deadline is May 17, 2024
