In the wake of three EF-2 tornadoes that struck Tallahassee in the early hours of Friday, wreaking havoc with wind speeds ranging between 111 and 135 miles per hour, and a wind gust of 84 miles per hour on campus, FAMU has initiated the repair and cleanup process. Despite the devastation caused by the recent storms, the university anticipates the looming threat of further severe weather, prompting the closure of the campus today.
Following days of extensive assessments and restoration work, power was successfully reinstated to the FAMU Tallahassee campus on Friday evening. However, the road to recovery remains steep as employees and contractors continue to evaluate the extent of the damage and commence essential repairs.
Monday, May 13, was slated to mark the commencement of the Summer A and C sessions at FAMU. However, in light of the ongoing cleanup operations, classes are set to be conducted remotely from May 13 to May 17.
Despite the adversity faced, FAMU remains resolute in its commitment to provide quality education and support to its students. Classes are scheduled to resume remotely on Wednesday, with university officials closely monitoring the situation and implementing necessary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of the FAMU community amidst the looming threat of additional storms.
