The FAMU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Institute of Public Health rose six spots in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings of the Best Pharmacy Schools in the nation.
The FAMU pharmacy program jumped from #79 last year to #73 (tied) in the 2024 rankings released earlier this year, and is No. 1 among its HBCU peers, according to the rankings.
The U.S. News rankings take into account academic quality metrics like student selectivity, research activity, and peer assessments from deans and senior faculty. Employment outcomes for graduates also factor into the scoring.
FAMU outranked its HBCU peers including Howard University (#86), Texas Southern University (#99 tie), University of Maryland Eastern Shore (#99 tie), and Xavier University of Louisiana (#99 tie).
FAMU's pharmacy program, established in 1951, has nearly 550 students enrolled and awards the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) professional degree, the Masters of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees. The university aims to continue elevating its national reputation through innovative education, research, and community outreach initiatives.
Just last fall, FAMU, as a whole, catapulted 12 spots in the USNWR ranking breaking into the top 100 of the best nation's public universities landing at No. 91 (tie).
