FAMU head softball coach Camise Patterson has been named the WeCOACH Coach of the Month. This honor comes on the heels of an extraordinary season where Patterson's leadership transformed the Rattlers into a powerhouse within the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).

In just her second season at the helm, Patterson has led the Rattlers to a first-place finish in the SWAC East, improving their record from 20-24 (13-11) in 2023 to an impressive 26-20, (19-5 SWAC) in 2024.

The Rattlers' success can be attributed to a comprehensive improvement across all facets of the game. From a hitting standpoint, the team ranked first in the SWAC in batting average (.312), showcasing their exceptional ability at the plate. They also secured second place in on-base percentage (.369) and slugging percentage (.404), further demonstrating their prowess in offensive play. With 335 hits, the Rattlers ranked third in the conference, highlighting their consistency and skill in racking up base hits.

On the pitching side, the Rattlers dominated SWAC play, leading the conference in several key categories. Their earned run average (ERA) of 1.79 was the best in the SWAC, a testament to their exceptional pitching staff. They also led the conference in earned runs allowed (38) and opponent batting average (.213), showcasing their ability to keep opposing hitters at bay. The Rattlers' pitching staff was instrumental in securing six shutouts, ranking second in the SWAC, and limited opponents to just 117 hits, further solidifying their defensive dominance.

Coach Patterson's impact was also evident in the individual accolades her players received. Ten of her players earned SWAC honors this season, a clear indication of the team's depth and talent. Notably, Patterson coached the league's top pitcher, true freshman Zoryana Hughes, who led the SWAC in wins. Hughes' performance under Patterson's tutelage underscores the coach's ability to develop and inspire her players.

The pinnacle of Patterson's achievements this season was leading the Rattlers to the SWAC championship round for the first time in the program's history. This milestone not only marked a significant accomplishment for the team but also positioned Patterson as one of the most influential coaches in collegiate softball.

The WeCOACH Coach of the Month award recognizes Patterson's exceptional leadership, strategic acumen, and ability to foster a winning culture at FAMU. Her dedication to elevating the program and her players has not only redefined the Rattlers' softball team but has also set a new standard for success within the SWAC.
