The FAMU campus is alive with the sounds of music and the sights of precision marching as 422 middle and high school students from across the country have trekked to the "highest of seven hills" for the prestigious Marching "100" Summer Band Camp. This week-long intensive, which began on July 14th and will run through July 20th, is renowned for its comprehensive curriculum designed to elevate the skills of young musicians and performers in grades 7 through 12.

The Marching "100" Summer Band Camp is widely recognized as one of the most comprehensive band camps in the nation. It offers a unique opportunity for students to immerse themselves in a variety of musical experiences, including improving their music proficiency, refining their marching concepts, and exploring the art of playing in small chamber groups, concert bands, and jazz ensembles.

"This camp is not just about making music; it's about making memories and building a foundation for a lifetime of musical excellence," said Dr. Shelby Chipman, Director of Bands at FAMU. "We are thrilled to welcome such a talented and diverse group of young people to our campus and to provide them with the tools they need to succeed in their musical endeavors."

The camp's auxiliary staff, known for their expertise and passion, provided specialized instruction to the color guard, dancers, twirlers, and drum majors. These sessions were tailored to enhance the students' performance skills and understanding of their roles within the ensemble.

Participants had the option to attend the camp as residential students, staying on the FAMU campus and experiencing college life firsthand, or as non-residential students. The camp fees were set at $700 for residential students and $500 for non-residential students.

The week culminates in a showcase performance that highlighted the students' growth and achievements. Family members, friends, and music enthusiasts will be treated to a display of talent and dedication that is sure leave the audience inspired and the performers beaming with pride.

"The Marching '100' Summer Band Camp is more than just a camp; it's a tradition, a family, and a pathway to excellence," said Dr. Chipman. "We are proud to continue this legacy and to see the impact it has on the lives of these young people."

When campers leave here, they will take with them not only new skills and friendships but also the unforgettable experience of being part of the FAMU Marching "100" legacy.
