was a nail-biter, as the Rattlers narrowly defeated the Norfolk State Spartans 24-23 before a packed crowd of 22,210 at Center Parc Stadium in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge football game in Atlanta, GA, Saturday night.
 
The Rattlers, led by quarterback Daniel Richardson, who was named the MEAC/SWAC Challenge Most Valuable Player, faced an uphill battle from the outset.
 
The Spartans dominated the early on, establishing an 14-0 lead in the first quarter, thanks to their formidable rushing game. Norfolk State's ground attack was relentless, amassing 191 yards in the first half alone, contributing to their 224 first-half yards.

Norfolk ran the ball 43 times to the Rattlers 26.

The Rattlers' resilience shone through as they rallied from the deficit. 
 
Richardson, displaying exceptional poise and skill, completed 22 of 30 passes for 286 yards and three touchdowns. He also contributed on the ground, rushing three times for 32 yards, showcasing his versatility and leadership.
 
The Rattlers' Dark Cloud Defense, though initially overwhelmed by the Spartans' rushing onslaught, managed to regroup and make crucial stops in the second half, allowing the offense to claw back into the game.
 
As the final whistle blew, the FAMU Rattlers had completed a remarkable comeback, securing a 24-23 victory and improving their record to 1-0. The win sets a positive tone for the Rattlers as they head into the rest of their season, while the Norfolk State Spartans will look to regroup and bounce back in their next game.
