FAMU has narrowed its search for a new Vice President and Athletics Director down to Angela Suggs, the President and CEO of the Florida Sports Foundation (FSF). Since leading the FSF, Suggs has built a stellar reputation in the sports industry, and has been instrumental in bringing major events to Florida, including two Super Bowl games in 2020 and 2021, and the NFL Pro Bowl to Orlando (2023, 2024, and 2025).
She has lead the FSF since 2017, managing an annual budget of approximately $9.3 million, and generating an economic impact of over $153 billion and creating over 1 million new sports related jobs. Under Suggs' watch, FSF has attracted more than 29 million annual visitors to Florida, according to the agency's fact sheet.
Suggs' connection with FAMU Athletics runs deep, having previously served as the Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs and Senior Woman Administrator (SWA). Her tenure at FAMU was marked by significant contributions to the athletic department, including the development of the current branding and logos used by FAMU Athletics and the establishment of the North Endzone Club.
Suggs' extensive experience in sports also includes a stint in marketing with the NFL's Miami Dolphins. Her deep understanding of the industry, combined with her commitment to excellence, is expected to position FAMU Athletics as a key player in the collegiate sports arena. Her leadership is expected to drive FAMU’s athletic programs to new heights, both on and off the field.
A Tallahassee native, Suggs is a graduate of both FAMU High School and FAMU. She also holds a master's degree from St. Thomas University.
FAMU Trustees are scheduled to take up Suggs' contract on this Friday morning.
