The FAMU Lady Rattlers basketball team begin their second season under Coach Bridgette Gordon this evening at home against Howard University at 6:30 pm.
The Lady Rattlers have eight players returning to the team, with six of them having played in at least 15 games.
The Lady Rattlers also added eight new players to the roster, with the biggest name to watch being Sabou Gueye, the transfer guard from New Mexico State. Other newcomers to watch are Tahnyjia Purifoy, Monique Judge, Zikeyah Carter, D'Mya Griffin, Eve Alexander, Cheyenne McEvans, and Saige Glover.
The Lady Rattlers have high expectations following making the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament in 2024 as a 7-seed in 2024, it was their first time making the season in three years.
The FAMU men's basketball starts its season this evening when they travel to Ft. Worth, Texas, to take on Texas Christian University (TCU), a team that made the 2024 NCAA Tournament as a 9-seed, tonight at 8 pm.
It will be the teams’ first game under first-year coach Patrick Crarey II. The Rattlers TCU enters the season with a significantly retooled roster after losing nine scholarship players, including all of last season's top seven scorers.
TCU has reloaded with seven transfers and a top-20 freshman class. Returning just 4.7% of its scoring from last season, the fewest in the Big 12. Known for their speed, the Horned Frogs led the nation in fast break points over the past two seasons.
