FAMU's baseball team claimed a 2-1 series victory against Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) rival Alabama State over the weekend, splitting Friday and Saturday wins before falling 12-5 in Sunday’s finale at Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.

The Rattlers (12-12 overall/ 5-1 SWAC) opened strong with a 4-2 victory in Game 1 on Friday, backed by steady pitching and timely hitting. They extended their momentum Saturday with a 5-2 win, clinching the series. However, Alabama State (10-15) avoided a sweep Sunday, rallying early and capitalizing on FAMU’s defensive miscues to secure a decisive 12-5 result.

“We showed resilience taking the series, but Sunday was a reminder of the adjustments we need to make,” said FAMU Head Coach Jamey Shouppe. “Our focus now is tightening execution as we move deeper into conference play.”

Series Breakdown
Game 1 (Fri): FAMU 4, Alabama State 2 — Pitchers stifled Hornets’ lineup late.
Game 2 (Sat): FAMU 5, Alabama State 2 — Balanced offense sealed the series.
Game 3 (Sun): Alabama State 12, FAMU 5 — Early errors and a 4-run 2nd inning by the Hornets proved insurmountable.

The Rattlers, now .500 on the season, return to Tallahassee for an out of conference match up against Troy State on Wednesday at Moore-Kittles Field.
