FAMU alumna Sha’Ron James has assumed the role of Board Chair of the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce. James, a shareholder at the Gunster Law Firm and a seasoned lobbyist, brings a wealth of expertise in business advocacy and policy to the position.
A 1996 cum laude graduate of FAMU, James’ academic pedigree spans Syracuse University (Master of Public Administration, summa cum laude, 1998), the University of Florida College of Law (J.D., 2001), and Stanford University’s Advanced Project Management Certificate program (2015). Her multidisciplinary background positions her to advance the Chamber’s pillars of economic competitiveness, talent development, and community prosperity.
In her inaugural address at the Chamber's annual breakfast in January, James emphasized collaboration as key to driving regional growth. “Our success hinges on uniting businesses, educators, and policymakers to create opportunities that elevate both our economy and quality of life,” she stated, highlighting plans to expand workforce initiatives and attract innovative industries.
The Chamber, renowned for its member-focused programs like networking forums, legislative advocacy, and small business mentorship, aims to bolster its impact under James’ leadership.
She succeeds outgoing Chair Ben Pingree, who lauded her appointment as “a transformative moment for the Capital City’s business landscape, and praised her for her "strategic vision and deep roots in Tallahassee,” noting her legacy of bridging corporate and community interests.
