FAMU is beginning the process of overhauling Howard Hall, the historic home of the university’s Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program. The $13.6 million project, will modernize the 1950s-era building while preserving its legacy as a cornerstone of military leadership development.
The 16- to 18-month construction project will fully reconfigure the building’s interior layout and replace aging infrastructure, including electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems. Howard Hall has housed FAMU’s ROTC program since 1948, producing generations of military officers.
“This renovation underscores FAMU’s commitment to fostering culturally astute leaders prepared for a global workforce,” a university spokesperson said. The updates aim to bolster the training environment for ROTC cadets, ensuring the program remains competitive and accessible.
Howard Hall’s revitalization also honors FAMU’s role as one of the nation’s top Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in producing minority military officers. Construction is slated to begin in the coming months, with completion expected by late 2026.
