The FAMU men’s basketball team saw its season come to an end Wednesday night with a 91-76 loss to No. 2 seed Jackson State in the quarterfinals of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) tournament in Atlanta. Despite a competitive effort, the Rattlers struggled to contain Jackson State’s offensive firepower and rebounding dominance.

FAMU (14-17) shot 41.0% from the field (25-of-61) and 37.0% from three-point range (10-of-27), but their 66.7% free-throw accuracy (16-of-24) left critical points unclaimed. Jackson State (15-17), meanwhile, showcased efficiency across the board, converting 61.2% of field goals (30-of-49), 47.1% from beyond the arc (8-of-17), and 79.3% from the charity stripe (23-of-29).

The Tigers’ control of the glass proved decisive, outrebounding FAMU 38-25. This advantage fueled fast-break opportunities and limited second-chance points for the Rattlers. Jackson State’s balanced scoring attack and stifling defense built a double-digit lead by halftime, which FAMU could not overcome despite late efforts.

The loss concludes FAMU’s season, while Jackson State advances to the SWAC semifinals tonight where it will face Bethune-Cookman, continuing its pursuit of an NCAA Tournament berth.
