FAMU men's basketball Coach Patrick Crarey has been named a finalist for the prestigious Joe B. Hall Award. This accolade, presented annually by CollegeInsider.com, recognizes the top first-time head coach in Division I Men's College Basketball.
In his inaugural season leading the Rattlers, Coach Crarey has guided the program to a commendable 13-15 record. The team showcased impressive home court performance with a 9-3 record at the Lawson Center. Additionally, they achieved a solid 10-7 record within the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), securing the sixth overall position in the conference standings.
The Joe B. Hall Award is named in honor of the legendary Kentucky Head Coach Joe B. Hall, who took on the formidable task of succeeding the iconic Adolph Rupp at the university. In his first season, Hall led the Wildcats to a 20-8 record, clinched the SEC title, and advanced to the NCAA Regional Finals.
Coach Hall's illustrious career spanned from 1972 to 1985, during which he amassed a record of 297-100, winning two-thirds of his games. He earned four SEC Coach of the Year honors and secured a National Championship in 1978. Hall also guided the Wildcats to two additional Final Fours, claimed eight SEC regular season championships, and won one SEC tournament championship in 1984.
Tragically, Coach Hall passed away on January 15, 2022.
The recipient of the Joe B. Hall Award is determined by a distinguished 10-member voting committee, comprising current and former head coaches, as well as two senior staff members of CollegeInsider.com.
The 2025 Joe B. Hall Award will be announced in San Antonio, Texas, the site of the men's Division I Basketball Championship. This recognition underscores Coach Crarey's outstanding contributions and promising future in collegiate basketball.
The Rattlers prepare for their final game of the 2025 regular season on March 8, against in-state rival Bethune Cookman University.
