Representatives from Fox News and its local affiliates recently visited FAMU to connect with student journalists, offering career guidance and sharing impactful expertise during a session with the university’s TV20 newscast team. The event highlighted internship opportunities, storytelling techniques, and strategies for navigating today’s evolving media landscape.
During the interactive workshop, Fox News professionals emphasized the importance of adaptability, multimedia skills, and ethical reporting. “The media industry thrives on diverse voices and innovative storytelling,” said one Fox representative. “We’re here to help students harness their unique perspectives to create impactful journalism.”
FAMU’s School of Journalism and Graphic Communications (SJGC) has long prioritized industry partnerships to bridge classroom learning with real-world experience. The Fox News collaboration joins a robust network that includes the Walt Disney Company -- ABC News and ESPN-- and Hearst Television. The Disney partnership has provided internships, mentorship programs, and recruitment pipelines for SJGC students.
“These partnerships are vital to our mission,” said Mira Lowe, Dean, SJGC. “They ensure our students gain hands-on training and access to top-tier professionals, preparing them to excel in competitive media roles.”
Students praised the Fox News session for its practical advice. “Learning insider tips and best practices from seasoned journalists was invaluable,” said senior journalism major Kayla Williams.
