The air around the Al Lawson Center will hum with anticipation this evening as FAMU mens and women's basketball teams will officially tip off its basketball season with Hoops on the Hill, an energetic celebration uniting students, alumni, and fans in a display of school spirit and athletic promise.
The event, presented by Frenchtown Rising, aims to capture the essence of Rattler culture — a blend of music, performance, and unapologetic pride — while formally introducing the men’s and women’s basketball teams ahead of their upcoming campaigns.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with a clear bag policy in place, fans are encouraged to arrive early to secure good seating. The evening will be hosted by DJ Demp and Nicole Everett, who will guide attendees through a program featuring live performances by DJ Lil Boy and the Frenchtown Rising Band.
FAMU's first-year men’s basketball coach Charlie Ward, as well as women’s head coach Bridgette Gordon, will be on hand to introduce their respective teams and talk about the upcoming season.
“This is more than a tip-off — it’s a statement,” Coach Ward said. “We’re building something special here, and nights like this remind everyone what Rattler basketball is all about.”
University officials emphasized the role of events like Hoops on the Hill in strengthening community ties and elevating the visibility of FAMU athletics.
